About – Magdalena Salome

Bio

Magdalena Salome graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where in 2018 she received her diploma with distinction in in the Studio of Concept and Intermedia Graphics.  Her practice unfolds at the intersection of art and science, merging intuitive sensitivity with a research-based approach. She draws inspiration from the complexity of natural processes and the ways in which humans perceive and relate to them, translating these explorations into painting, drawing, printmaking and experimental forms.

A special place in her practice is devoted to plant-based pigments of her own making. She has exhibited internationally, with shows in Poland, the United Kingdom, Portugal, South Korea and the United States.

Artist statement

Nature is where I find a sense of peace, but also endless fascination – almost as if it were a counterpart I can converse with. In my work I try to capture her presence, filtered through my own sensitivity: through longing, excitement, misunderstanding, or absence. There is something of a researcher in me. I like to observe, dissect, and experiment – moving between direct experience of nature and its study through books, scientific materials, and laboratory processes.

This dual perspective allows me to design encounters with phenomena that are at once tangible and poetic. I translate these experiences into painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture, refusing to confine myself to a single medium. I often create my own plant-based pigments, allowing matter itself to become both the tool and the collaborator in my practice.
